evaluating component one
Ive done many experiments, some include, Uta Barth recreation, where we made images blurred so that only light and shapes can be made out. Slides work, where we made slides with our past landscape images. This task was creative. Bare bones, where we created landscape images using only the outline.
My investigations were always developed through reflecting on what could have been done better. Using a number of different techniques and point of views. Along the way my confidence grew, and I has started taking risks that further improved my work. Most challenging was getting started. For example having to decide what im going to do, or actually starting my pieces of work. Recording my progress through images and thorough evaluations have helped me, and my confidence in single image evaluations has grown. I produced many final outcomes, some I was satisfied with and some I wished to do better. I was always hoping to create a professional piece of work, and sometimes the outcomes were perfect. My constructed landscapes Final Outcome was disappointing for me, and I would do it very differently if i did it again. For example i would choose images with more potential to be manipulated, I would also try different styles and techniques. I have learned a number of new skills, these include the process of making Photograms, and Cyanotypes. Also making slides and changing how the slide looked. I found making photograms to be very challenging, because its hard to time how long exactly the light should shine on the image.
One process that really inspired me was creating slides. It was difficult at first, but as i proceeded my confidence grew. My first attempt was mediocre, they didnt really look like anything to think about. However my second attempt was much better, creating abstract images that would inspire and make viewers think. I was very happy with my slides, and they are probably one of my best works.
I began 'Constructed Landscapes' studying the work of Dafna Talmor. She's an artist that creates landscapes like a puzzle. She constructs her landscapes by cutting up the original image and rearranging them. This creates a seemless warping effect, and is very intriguing to look at.
We also looked at Uta Barth. Her work was inspiring and was nice to take inspiration from. Dafna Talmor was a great inspiration also, her slide work was interesting and I felt motivated to create my own slides.
My final project for 'Constructed Landscape' had disappointed me. The lack of evidence for change, and a dull string of experiments lead to me being unmotivated. However, I realised my mistakes and bounced back in Component 2, leading to many diverse experiments. If i could go back i would try and be more innovative and creative.
